Bathroom with a toilet, a handrail, and a colorful tissue box. Green towels hang overhead. The floor is wooden, and a trash bin is nearby.
Wall to Floor Grab Bar Beside Toilet

This image shows one of our recent installations. This type grab bar attached at the wall is also supported by a leg that is attached to the floor beside the toilet.

Wall-to-floor grab bars with support legs provide exceptional stability for the elderly, pregnant women, or individuals with limited mobility.

These grab bars assist the balance when sitting or standing to prevent falling when using the toilet.

The particular model pictured is padded which is a little more comfortable for the user, but the installation is a little trickier because the flange cover on the top bar is slightly impeded by the padded grip when attaching anchors to the wall during installation.

This simply causes the upper flange screws or bolts to go in at a slight angle. But it is certainly doable.

The material is high-quality 304 stainless steel and this and other models with a support leg to the floor provide very good support. The u-shaped design is very ergonomic as well.

Above is the side view of the same model. Notice that the horizontal leg is separate and can be attached to the upper section after it is secured to the floor. (See installation instructions below)

Grad bar without padded grip

The model pictured above does not have the padded grip on the grab bar which also makes for an easier installation. This is our first choice overall.

INSTALLATION:

  • Loosely assemble the leg on the u-shaped bar in the approximate location in which it will be installed

  • Place against the wall and floor at the most convenient place for use

  • Mark all three flange screw hole locations (wall and floor) with pencil or marker and set the bar aside

  • Check the wall with a stud finder-If available, always attach to a stud-mark those specific holes that will hit the stud- The other holes can be used with wall inserts

  • Remove the leg and drill holes in the flooring at all flange hole locations-With wood flooring appropriate length screws or lag bolts can be used to fasten the flange-With concrete flooring we use Tapcons, which are very sufficient

  • Reattach the upper grab bar loosely and attach to wall-If attachment to the stud is not available, we suggest using at least one SnapToggle on each wall flange with TripleGrip inserts on the additional holes. (Anchors shown below)

  • Tighten all bolts and the leg connection to the grab bar and it is ready to use.

When needed, this wall to floor model can be installed on both sides of the toilet. This type of support is especially helpful when there are no walls or a vanity near the toilet.

One more note: when choosing a wall to floor grab bar: Be sure and measure the distance from the wall that is needed to accommodate the individual's reach sitting and standing. Measurements from the wall on the u-shaped bar can be from 23" to 29".

OTHER MODELS:

Folding Grab Bar

This is a convenient model that folds down from the wall. It should only be used when attached directly to a stud or to a solid surface wall that will support the needed weight. It should never be installed solely in drywall.

Wall Mounted Grab Bar with Toilet Paper Holder

This is a convenient option when a wall is near the toilet. Each flange should be attached with a minimum of one SnapToggle if not attached to a stud.

Similar to the one shown above, either of which can be attached firmly to the side of a vanity as well.

Finally, a standard grab bar from 12" to 24" can be strategically placed on the wall beside the toilet to assist sitting and standing.
